Human resources to be trained Nutrition is the foundation of medicine and an essential medical skill in cancer care. In recent years, it has become necessary to train medical personnel with knowledge of clinical nutrition in order to continue cancer treatment under various circumstances, including the need to deal with cancer cachexia and sarcopenia.
In home care, it is also necessary to train medical personnel who can continue nutritional management after transitioning from the hospital to the home as a local medical resource. This training will also help to revitalize NST activities in the medical field.
Cooperation with professional qualifications related to cancer Accredited as a training facility for certified physicians and supervisors, as well as for clinical nutrition and metabolism specialist therapists (oncology specialist therapists) (Japanese Society of Clinical Nutrition and Metabolism).
Characteristics of educational content Nutritional management is one of the most important techniques in promoting cancer care. We can train medical professionals who can understand and perform the following: reduction of perioperative complications, continuation of chemotherapy, and prevention of transition to cancer cachexia. In addition, it is also necessary to acquire management skills to maintain a high quality of life at the end of life. By having staff at both the base hospital and at home complete this intensive course, a seamless transition to home will be possible. In addition, by improving the nutritional management techniques of each profession in the community, safe and highly satisfactory cancer treatment can be realized.
Guidance system Nutrition support teams at the University of Fukui Hospital and other university hospitals will play a central role. The training will be supported by an educational facility accredited by the Japanese Society of Clinical Nutrition and Metabolism. In addition, a person with LLL Diploma and Lecturer status from the European Society of Clinical Nutrition and Metabolism will also be available to provide training.
Career path of graduates Physicians who complete the course are expected to become chairpersons of NSTs and leaders of regional NSTs. Non-physician staff can aim for certification as NST specialist therapists certified by the Japanese Society of Clinical Nutrition and Metabolism, and as clinical nutrition and metabolism specialist therapists (oncology specialist therapists). They are expected to be deeply involved in nutritional management in cancer treatment.
