Characteristics of educational content In order to train clinical geneticists who can actively participate in and contribute to cancer genome medicine, on-the-job training to experience the front lines of genetic medicine and cancer genome medicine is effective. This course is the first of its kind in Japan to provide substantial on-the-job training in both types of medicine. In addition, the latest relevant information will be actively provided online to make it easier for physicians working in remote areas to participate in the course.
Guidance system The Department of Genetic Medicine, Shinshu University School of Medicine/Center for Gene Medicine, Shinshu University Hospital, conducted the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology Problem-Solving Advanced Medical Human Resource Development Program “Overcoming Intractable Diseases! Fostering Next Generation Super Doctors: NGSD (Next Generation Super Doctor) Project. Currently, the second phase of the NGSD project, “Training Program for Next Generation Super Doctors to Promote Genome Medicine” (https://www.ngsd-project.jp), is being promoted. In addition to the foundation of the on-the-job training system developed in the NGSD project, this course will be taught in a system that allows students to seamlessly learn about cancer genome medicine in general with the cooperation of the entire Hokushin Cancer Pro.
Career path of graduates After obtaining a clinical genetic specialist, he became a clinical genetic specialist at 12 cancer genome medical centers/cooperative hospitals in 4 prefectures in the Hokushin region as a leader of cancer genome medicine and hereditary tumor treatment in the Hokushin region.

Acceptance Goals Based on the fact that about 2 doctors from all over Japan have been accepted every year who wish to train to become clinical geneticists, the target number of acceptance was set at 1 doctor/year. Over the next six years, six clinical geneticists with expertise in cancer prevention will be trained and placed at university hospitals or children’s hospitals nationwide.
