Human resources to be trained To train certified genetic counselors who can promote efficient and personalized cancer prevention medicine based on medical big data from multi-omics, whole genome and clinical information, with an understanding of the significance of panel test clinical sequencing in cancer genomics and hereditary tumor medicine.
Cooperation with professional qualifications related to cancer Kanazawa University Graduate School of Medical Sciences (Master’s Program) is accredited as a training facility for certified genetic counselors (Japanese Society of Genetic Counseling and Japanese Society of Human Genetics).
Characteristics of educational content Kanazawa University established the course in FY2030, and one of its graduates in FY2021 was certified as a certified genetic counselor. The course is unique in its community-based cross-departmental collaboration, and has continuity in its approach to genetic counseling when a new candidate for a hereditary tumor is identified. The course will foster medical professionals who will play a role in cancer genome medicine and genetic oncology by actively participating in the Cancer Genome Outpatient Clinic and the Expert Panel.
Guidance system In this course, clinical genetic specialists and certified genetic counselors from Kanazawa University will provide on-the-job training through actual ongoing projects. In addition, E-learning and Web Conference Seminars will be used to provide a wide range of efficient instruction. Standardization of teaching methods will be discussed by the Academic Affairs Committee.
Career path of graduates Personnel trained in this course will be qualified as certified genetic counselors, and will contribute to community medicine as staff at medical education institutions and as medical personnel who will play a role in cancer genome medicine and treatment of hereditary tumors at regional core hospitals such as base hospitals for cancer treatment in the future.

Acceptance Goals To train at least one certified genetic counselor at each of the five cancer base hospitals in Ishikawa over the next five years, with the goal of having at least one certified genetic counselor at each of the five cancer base hospitals in Ishikawa Prefecture. Based on the number of applicants to the graduate school in the past and the admission needs survey, about 2 applicants are expected each year, so the target number of accepted students is set at 10.
