Human resources to be trained In addition to specialized knowledge and skills in cancer care, the program trains physicians who learn about oncology across departments, and who are proficient in the latest PET and MRI functional imaging and proton beam therapy, taking advantage of the unique characteristics of the University and the prefecture, which have the High Energy Medical Research Center and the Proton Therapy Center. Furthermore, by learning about palliative care, they will be able to practice seamless care from hospital to home and from the early stage of diagnosis, and train leaders of team medicine.
Cooperation with professional qualifications related to cancer The hospital is accredited as a training facility for board-certified surgeons (Japan Surgical Society), board-certified gastroenterological surgeons (Japanese Society of Gastroenterological Surgery), board-certified internists (Japanese Society of Internal Medicine), board-certified cancer pharmacotherapists (Japanese Society of Clinical Oncology), board-certified pathologists (Japanese Society of Pathology), board-certified radiologists and radiation therapists (Japanese Radiological Society), board-certified anesthesiologists (Japanese Society of Anesthesiology), board-certified cancer treatment physicians (Japanese Organization of Medical Radiology), board-certified bone and soft tissue tumor specialists (Japanese Orthopaedic Association), and other specialists.
Characteristics of educational content In addition to the existing courses of the Department of Tumor Medicine or the Department of Organ Regenerative Medicine in the Course of Advanced and Applied Medicine of the Department of Integrated Advanced Medicine, students can simultaneously learn the latest cancer treatment and pain care such as palliative care by taking courses in the Hoku-Shin Cancer Professional Development Program and courses in the Department of Functional Imaging Medicine of the Medical Science Course (taught by the High Energy Medical Research Center) of this university, and acquire knowledge of cutting edge imaging diagnosis skills.
Guidance system The Department of Oncology and Clinical Oncology of the University of Fukui and faculty members from various departments of the University of Fukui who are familiar with team medicine such as palliative care and clinical oncology will provide multidisciplinary cancer treatment and cross-departmental and multidisciplinary cooperation.
Career path of graduates In addition to their own specialty, graduates of the program will be able to provide integrated cancer care by learning cancer diagnosis and treatment across departments, and will also become familiar with palliative care and be expected to play an active role as leaders of palliative care and other team medicine at base hospitals and in the community. Acceptance Goals With the goal of assigning at least two additional oncologists to each of the five cancer base hospitals in the prefecture, the number of oncologists to be trained will be 10 over the next six years. In addition, based on the number of applicants to the graduate school in the past and the admission needs survey, two applicants are expected each year, so the target number of accepted students is set at 10.
